【10/23 Dollar-Yen Scalp Trading Points】
Thanks for your hard work! Okay, let's go for a Dollar-Yen scalp tonight as well!
First, the Tokyo session overview for today.
Currently the Dollar-Yen is around 157.05. This morning it started around 156.75, but during the Tokyo session it continued the prior trend of yen buying, and after 9:30 JST it fell to around 156.05 (today's Tokyo low).
However, with Finance Minister Shōnai’s remarks such as “the conditions for declaring an exit from deflation are not yet in place” and “we must judge carefully to avoid slipping back again,” expectations for another BoJ rate hike faded, and yen buying paused. Afterward, some buying into dips appeared, making Tokyo’s decline a head fake.
Dollar-Yen is likely to hand over to the overseas session with about a 30-pip rise from the morning level.
Dollar-Yen appears to have moved below the range’s lower bound for now, and the movement looks favorable. Let’s aim to have a solid week’s end!
Now, the points for tonight’s Dollar-Yen scalp trading (my notes).
● Movement around the 16:00 London market open
● Movement around the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movement after the 22:45 “US Manufacturing PMI” release
● Movement after the 23:00 “US University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index” release
———
Other notes…
・There is a PMI release rush in many European countries
・Be wary of yen-softening remarks from US and Japanese governments
・Headlines related to Middle East developments and crude oil prices require attention

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping strategy” targets moves around each market open in London and New York, and the moves after the 22:45 “US Manufacturing PMI” and 23:00 “US University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index” releases. Users of the “1-minute scalping club” should handle them as per the theory without issues.
Also, the short side of the “15-minute chart scalping strategy” is already above the morning’s levels from the initial Tokyo drop, so it may not be prudent to press positions. Tonight, concentrate safely on “1-minute scalping.”
As for recent developments,Recently, Mr. Gogojan kindly visited my office from far away and interviewed me about “scalping.” I’m grateful. I spoke a little—please take a look when you have time.

Because scalping aims for a small profit per trade, you might think there are always 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. Targeting times with relatively high volatility can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The times I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 during US daylight saving time / 17:00 during US standard time)
・New York market open time (22:00 during US daylight saving time / 23:00 during US standard time)
Even immediately after US data releases there is higher volatility and more opportunities. However, in the first few minutes after the release, the spread can widen, so the rule is to enter only after it returns to the normal spread.
Always check the US data and event schedule in advance on the websites of each brokerage or FX provider. By knowing when opportunities will arise, you can efficiently accumulate profits.
Also, avoid positioning immediately before US data releases. If you position against the trend, you can’t help but suffer. Don’t make careless mistakes; absolutely not.
US data and event schedules can be checked on each broker’s or FX provider’s website.
Of course there are many other points, but I’ve discussed the essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
