【Breaking】Duo finally cashes out — settlement +6,580 yen, waiting time 13 days. How to read this number
serialization Yoko and Kenji’s GOLD EA Mastery Notes: Quick Update
Hello, I’m Yoko.
Today we changed the plan and brought you a quick update. The official forward of the Alchemy Duo has finally been settled in one batch this afternoon.
First, we will share the results
・Around 2:20 PM on October 9 (Japan time), settled 28 positions in one batch.
・The first position was opened in the early morning of September 26, so about 13 days of a long waiting period.
・The settlement P/L is, +6,580 yen(0.01 lot). Not a large profit
As previously mentioned, “the settlement did not occur for nearly a week” ended up extending to almost two weeks. Honestly, it felt like, “it was really stuck for a long time.”
Numbers of this basket
| First position | September 26, 5:20 / $4,290.19 |
| Last position | October 8, 7:40 / $4,104.11 |
| Number of held positions | 28 positions (0.01 lot × 28) |
| Average entry price | About $4,189.36 |
| Batch settlement | October 9, 14:20 / About $4,190.8 |
| Settlement P/L | +6,580 yen |
| Unrealized loss at the last averaging | About -370,000 yen (approx.) |
*All times are Japan time. Unrealized loss is an estimate evaluated at 4,104.11 dollars per 28 positions (1 USD ≈ 158 JPY). The actual lowest price may have been lower.
As you can see, the realized profit from the settlement is only a few thousand yen. Meanwhile, the unrealized loss during the waiting period grew to roughly 380,000 yen at the last averaging point. Winning and finishing “in profit” is not the same as winning easily. I want to be honest about this.
The “jump” left in the execution history
Looking at the execution history, Kenji noticed the following first.
September 28, 9:30 Position: $4,249.47
September 29, 13:00 Next position: $4,133.83
In this interval, about $116 drop, there were no averaging additions for about 27.5 hours.
Until then, positions were added every 3–4 dollars. But during this sharp drop, there was a notable gap.
This is because the rapid drop filter was active, causing waiting for averaging to be skipped. Duo includes two types of rapid drop filters: short-term and long-term.“When the price dropped more than $50 from the recent four-hour high” and“When the price dropped more than $80 from the recent 24-hour high” will skip new averaging (the first unit is excluded). When gold is significantly dropping, new positions are not added. It’s a safety mechanism of sorts.
The rapid drop filter has both pros and cons
This “jump” has both good and bad aspects.
Good: limit unrealized losses and used margin
Because averaging additions were not made during the drop, the number of positions did not explode uncontrollably.
Bad: the average entry price remained high
Since we didn’t buy at lower prices, the average entry price stayed around $4,189, which is high. For settlement, a price rebound to that level was required, extending the waiting time.
If there were no rapid drop filters, what would have happened? During the drop, averaging would have continued every 3–4 dollars, so the number of positions would have increased by dozens. The average entry price would have dropped further, possibly accelerating the settlement. But that would have meant unrealized losses and required margin would have been much larger.
Which is better depends on the market. However, Duo’s design philosophy is“to wait longer and avoid deep wounds”, a safety-oriented approach. The 13 days this time demonstrated both the cost and the effect of that design.
For those considering Duo
From the results this time, there are three things to note.
①It's rare, but settlement can take nearly two weeks.During that time, you will carry unrealized losses.
②Unrealized losses can be in the tens of thousands of dollars (in yen terms). Please calculate the required funds and maintenance margin in advance before using it.
③There is no guarantee that winning appears quickly.Whether you can endure the waiting time determines whether Duo suits you.
In the free trial version, you can actually experience this sense of “waiting time.” Please try it before purchase.
