Crimson Lotus Dragon 1 Hundred Million Yen Challenge Day 2 ― The day when unrealized gains and realized losses appeared simultaneously due to volatility from the yen plunge
The “100 Million Yen Challenge” started on September 7 has entered its second day. The first day closed with 3 positions (1 buy, 2 sells), unrealized and realized P/L at -9,?00? yen and -1,878 yen respectively, a quiet start. On the second day, volatility turned it into a high-volatility day. Here we review the price movement with numbers.
Toward the morning of the second day, USD/JPY rapidly rebounded into the 154 yen range. A daily drop of over 1% is seen, with rising expectations of a rate hike at the Bank of Japan’s Sept. 17–18 meeting as the backdrop. Gold moved in response to this yen movement, rising from the $4,390 range to the $4,428 range, then pulling back to around $4,421, showing large intraday fluctuations.
With this being a week light on economic data ahead of Thursday’s PPI and Friday’s CPI (for August), such currency-driven price moves are the day’s catalyst that shake gold in the first place.
Currently holding 4 long positions (average entry 4,413.14) and 5 short positions (average entry 4,422.25), totaling 9 positions, with unrealized P/L at +19,456 yen. On the other hand, today’s realized profit is already -44,859 yen, and the account balance has fallen from the starting 1,000,000 yen to 953,189 yen.
This is a typical scenario in a market that moves up and down significantly today: because buys and sells are built completely independently, one side (for example, the sell) goes against you and accumulates realized losses, while the other side (buy) moves in your favor, increasing unrealized gains; overall, still in negative territory, but this is part of the challenge’s nature of chasing both good and bad days as they come.
Day 1 (9/7) closed with realized profit -1,878 yen and account balance 998,122 yen. Day 2 (9/8) realized profit -44,859 yen, account balance down to 953,189 yen. From the initial 1,000,000 yen, a roughly 4.7% decline over two days. Although still early in the journey toward the 100 million yen milestone, some days rise while others fall sharply—that’s the reality of this challenge.
